Dave has significant litigation experience. As a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, he first-chaired numerous bench trials. As an Assistant District Attorney, he indicted challenging felony cases, from the sale of illegal firearms by a local militia to financial crimes, bank robbery, and gang-related sex trafficking. He first-chaired jury trials, including those with DNA, medical, and other expert testimony.
Dave also has intellectual property-related litigation and transactional experience. At the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, he researched legal issues in a copyright infringement case involving a major writer-director. At the Authors Guild, he advised authors on copyright issues and reviewed film option agreements and proposed publishing agreements. At an entertainment and intellectual property boutique in New York City, he reviewed documents in a breach of contract case brought by a producer who sought to adapt a classic movie into a miniseries. He also worked on depositions in a trade secret case. At a franchise and intellectual property boutique in Denver, he drafted responses to Office Actions by the USPTO and advised clients on trademark issues.
